Troubleshooting

A printer is not listed

Try one or more of the following:

Make sure that the Ethernet cables, hubs, switches, access points, and other network devices are working properly

For more information, contact your administrator.

Make sure that the printer is not currently busy processing another print, copy, scan, or fax job

For more information, see the printer User’s Guide.

Make sure that the IP address and gateway are correct, and that the network mask is the same with other printers or computers on the network

From the printer, print a network setup page. For more information, see the printer User’s Guide.

Make sure that the computer and printer are connected to the same wireless network

  1. Obtain the access point (wireless router) and printer SSID.

    Notes:

    • The SSID is case-sensitive.
    • Obtain the access point SSID from the Wireless Network Connection settings of your computer.
    • Obtain the printer SSID by printing a network setup page. For more information, see the printer User’s Guide.
  2. Compare the SSID of the access point and of the printer.

  3. If the SSIDs do not match, then connect the printer using the SSID of the wireless network that your computer is connected to.

Make sure that the computer is not connected to a virtual private network (VPN) before installing the driver or running the wireless setup

To check if the computer is connected to a VPN, open your VPN client software.

Connecting to a local network and a VPN at the same time requires split tunneling. Be aware that split tunneling may not be allowed due to security or technical concerns. For more information, contact your administrator.

Make sure that third-party applications are not blocking your printer

Third-party applications, including antivirus, security, and firewall programs, may block the discovery of your printer. Configure your application settings to unblock the printer, and then refresh the network list.
